Izabela Szlufarska is Professor of Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Prof. Szlufarska develops and employs theoretical and computational tools to address problems in areas that span nano-mechanics, defect behavior in materials under extreme conditions, and solid/liquid interfaces.
Prof. Szlufarska obtained her PhD. in Physics at the University of Tennessee and was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Southern California before her joining the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has received numerous award, including NSF-CAREER award and AFOSR Young investigator award. Since 2015 she has been holding the Harvey D. Spangler Professorship of Engineering.
Prof. Szlufarska has served in a number of leadership and advisory roles, including service as a chair of the Materials Research Society meeting (2016) and as the Editor-in-Chief for the journal of Current Opinion in Solid State and Materials Science.
