Ian Taylor is currently a Technology Manager in Shell’s Lubricants R&D Team, and has worked in Shell Lubricants R&D since 1994.
He is responsible for identifying future technologies that will be important for tomorrow’s lubricants. As such he works closely with Universities, monitors important research presented at conferences and in the patent literature and keeps up to date with start-up companies and competitor activity.
He has spent much of his Shell career working in tribology and lubrication science, and meets with many customers on technical tribology topics and also often gives presentations at international conferences. In particular he has spent much of his career carrying out research into energy efficient lubricants.
He is a Fellow of the STLE (Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers), and also a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, and has published more than 70 papers in tribology, and has 5 patents.
